Custom Resin Countertops — Functional Art

Resin countertops by Gold Coast Resin are where interior design meets fine art. Every countertop Johnny Mendoza creates is a hand-poured, one-of-a-kind surface that brings the depth and movement of natural stone without the limitations of quarried material. Marble veining, metallic rivers, embedded objects, and custom color stories.

The Craft

The Art of Resin SURFACES

Resin countertops occupy a unique space in the world of interior surfaces. Unlike granite, marble, or quartz, which are cut from existing slabs with patterns determined by geology, resin surfaces are created from scratch with complete creative freedom. The designer controls every element: the base colors, the veining patterns, the metallic accents, the depth of layers.

The process begins with a clear or pigmented resin base poured in controlled layers, each one manipulated by hand to create specific effects. Marble veining is achieved by carefully piping contrasting pigment into wet resin. Metallic effects use premium pigments that create shimmering swirls and rivers that catch light.

The finished surface is sealed with a food-safe, heat-resistant topcoat that creates a glass-smooth, non-porous surface suitable for daily kitchen use. Unlike natural stone, resin countertops never need sealing, never absorb stains, and never harbor bacteria in microscopic surface pores.

Our Method The Countertop

PROCESS

From design concept to finished surface, every resin countertop follows a careful four-stage process that ensures both beauty and lasting performance.

01

Surface Preparation

Existing countertops or substrates are cleaned, sanded, and primed. For new installations, we build custom substrates from marine-grade plywood or MDF, cut and fitted precisely to your kitchen or bathroom layout.

02

Color Design Session

Johnny works with you to select base colors, accent pigments, metallic effects, and veining patterns. Sample pours on test boards let you see and approve actual color interactions before any resin touches your countertop.

03

Pour and Manipulate

Pigmented resin is poured in controlled layers across the prepared surface. Veining, metallics, and color effects are manipulated by hand using heat, air, and specialized tools while the resin is still fluid.

04

Seal and Finish

A food-safe, heat-resistant clear topcoat is applied, sanded between coats and polished to a glass-smooth finish. Edge profiles are shaped and polished. Ready for daily use within 72 hours.

Why Us Why Gold Coast Resin for

COUNTERTOPS

Resin countertops require a rare combination of technical precision and artistic talent. The resin is unforgiving of mistakes, the color interactions are complex, and the working time before the material gels leaves no room for hesitation. This is not a DIY project.

Every countertop is completely custom, designed in collaboration with the homeowner and poured on-site for a perfect fit. The resin systems are heat-resistant to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, handling hot pans without damage. Every surface is sealed with a food-safe topcoat that meets FDA requirements for food contact surfaces.

The result is a surface that rivals the beauty of Calacatta marble, the durability of engineered quartz, and the uniqueness of original artwork, all poured and finished by hand in your home. No two Gold Coast Resin countertops have ever looked the same.

“We wanted something that looked like marble but was completely unique to our kitchen. Johnny poured the countertops on-site and the veining patterns he created are more beautiful than any natural stone we looked at. Our friends think it is real marble until they touch it.”

Common Questions Countertop

FAQ

Are resin countertops heat resistant?
Yes. The resin systems and topcoats Gold Coast Resin uses are rated to withstand temperatures up to 350 degrees Fahrenheit without damage. For extended heat exposure, use a trivet, the same recommendation made for granite and quartz.
Are resin countertops food safe?
Absolutely. The clear topcoat meets FDA requirements for food contact surfaces. Once cured, it creates a completely non-porous, inert surface. You can prepare food directly on the surface safely.
How do you maintain resin countertops?
Daily cleaning with a soft cloth and mild soap and water. Avoid abrasive cleaners and scouring pads. The non-porous topcoat prevents stains from penetrating. No sealing or professional maintenance required.
How do resin countertops compare to granite in cost?
Custom resin countertops typically fall in the same price range as mid-to-high-end granite, but with significantly more design flexibility and customization. Call (650) 797-3040 to schedule a consultation.
Can resin countertops be repaired if damaged?
Yes. Minor scratches can be buffed out with fine polishing compound. Deeper damage can be repaired by sanding and applying fresh resin that blends seamlessly. Gold Coast Resin provides repair services for all countertops we install.
What areas of the home can receive resin countertops?
Kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, home bars, outdoor kitchens under cover, office desks, vanities, fireplace mantels, and virtually any horizontal surface. The material adapts to any shape and wraps around curves.
