The Curriculum

What You’ll Learn

Gold Coast Resin Academy is not a lecture hall. Every class takes place on real concrete, with real materials, pouring real floors. Johnny Mendoza teaches the same techniques he uses on $15,000+ commercial installations — surface preparation, material ratios, metallic pigment manipulation, flake broadcasting, and the pour-day workflow that separates professionals from hobbyists.

The epoxy flooring industry is growing fast, and the demand for skilled installers far outpaces supply. Most contractors learn through expensive trial and error — ruined materials, failed adhesion, callbacks, and lost clients. The Academy compresses years of field experience into intensive hands-on training sessions where you learn by doing, not watching.

Whether you are starting a flooring business from scratch, adding epoxy services to an existing contracting company, or simply want to learn a high-demand trade, the Academy gives you the technical foundation and the confidence to pour floors that look like art and perform like industrial infrastructure.

  • Metallic epoxy pour techniques — heat manipulation, pigment blending, flow control
  • Flake floor systems — broadcasting, back-rolling, topcoat application
  • Surface preparation — diamond grinding, moisture testing, crack repair, profiling
  • Material science — resin chemistry, mix ratios, pot life management, cure conditions
  • Business fundamentals — quoting jobs, managing client expectations, building a portfolio
  • Troubleshooting — fish eyes, bubbles, delamination, color inconsistency, humidity failures

The Movement

Resin Lab

Resin Lab started with a simple idea: the best epoxy installers in the country should stop gatekeeping and start giving back. Founded by a collective of top-tier resin artists and certified installers — including Gold Coast Resin’s Johnny Mendoza — Resin Lab is a movement built on the belief that the industry grows when knowledge is shared, not hoarded.

Too many people enter the epoxy game with nothing but YouTube tutorials and a bucket of resin. They waste thousands in materials on failed pours, burn client relationships, and give the trade a bad name. Resin Lab exists to change that. The collective brings together installers who have collectively poured millions of square feet and puts their real-world experience into structured, hands-on training that actually works.

Every Resin Lab session is different because every instructor brings a different specialty. What stays constant is the philosophy: pour together, learn together, elevate the craft together. No egos, no secrets, no holding back.

Common Questions Academy

FAQ

Do I need any prior experience?
No. The Academy is designed for all levels — from complete beginners who have never touched resin to experienced contractors looking to refine their metallic techniques. Johnny tailors the instruction to the group’s skill level. The fundamentals are covered regardless of experience, and advanced students get pushed further during the pour sessions.
How long is the training?
The core Academy is an intensive full-day program. You arrive in the morning, prep concrete, mix materials, pour floors, and leave with hands-on experience and a certificate. Multi-day programs for advanced metallic techniques and commercial-scale installations are available — ask about scheduling when you apply.
How many students per class?
Classes are intentionally small — typically 4 to 8 students maximum. This ensures every person gets direct time with Johnny, hands-on pour experience, and individual feedback. We don’t run lecture-style sessions with 30 people watching from folding chairs. Everyone pours.
What materials and tools do I need to bring?
Nothing. All materials, tools, safety equipment, and protective gear are provided. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting epoxy on — because you will. We supply everything else: resin, hardener, metallic pigments, flake, rollers, squeegees, grinders, and topcoat. You just show up ready to work.
Can the Academy help me start a flooring business?
That’s exactly what it’s designed for. The final session covers the business side — how to price jobs, build a portfolio from your first 5 projects, source materials at contractor pricing, manage client expectations, and avoid the mistakes that sink new flooring businesses. Several Academy graduates are now running profitable epoxy companies. Call (650) 797-3040 to learn more.
