Morgan Hill Polyaspartic Coatings: Cold-Morning Cure and Winter Install Timing

Quick Answer

Polyaspartic cures via moisture and works best between 50-85F. Morgan Hill cold mornings (below 40F is rare but possible Dec-Feb) slow cure significantly. Summer afternoons (95F+) can flash-cure too fast. Spring through fall is most predictable scheduling. Winter installs after 9am.

Polyaspartic Cure Chemistry

Polyaspartic is a 2-component aliphatic polyurea cured by moisture in the air. Standard cure rate: 60 to 90 minutes for recoat at 70F and 50 percent humidity. Cure rate slows with cold temperatures and dry air; speeds up with heat and humidity.

California climate is generally friendly to polyaspartic cure. Morgan Hill spring (50-70F, 60 percent humidity) is ideal. Fall similar. Summer hot mid-afternoons can be too fast; winter cold mornings can be too slow. We schedule around these constraints.

Winter Cold-Morning Effects

Below 40F slows polyaspartic cure significantly. A coating that normally recoats in 90 minutes might need 4 to 6 hours below 40F. The longer the cure window, the more risk of dust contamination, footprints, or minor surface defects.

Morgan Hill rarely drops below 40F but Cordevalle and Holiday Lake hill homes can hit 35F on January mornings. We schedule winter installs to start after 9 am when the slab has warmed. Direct sun exposure on the slab helps cure. Garage door open to morning sun is the right setup.

Summer Flash-Cure Issues

Above 95F slab temperature flash-cures polyaspartic too fast. Recoat windows shrink to 30 to 45 minutes; the installer can't stay ahead of the cure. Surface defects (rolled-in air bubbles, lap marks) become more likely.

Morgan Hill summer afternoons in Holiday Plaza and downtown can hit 100F+ in July and August. We schedule summer installs in the morning (before 11 am) or shade-tent commercial installs to keep slab below 90F. Direct sun on a 100F day creates 130F slab temperatures.

Optimal Install Window

Spring (March-May) and fall (September-November) are the most predictable scheduling. Daytime temperatures 60-80F. Cure rates predictable. No flash-cure risk.

Summer installs work in early morning. Winter installs work after 9 am if temperature is above 40F. We don't install during active rain. December through February sees more weather delays.

How This Affects Your Project

Plan flexibility helps. Tell us if you need a specific date and we'll schedule around weather forecasts. We provide 48-hour notice for weather-related rescheduling. Most Morgan Hill projects don't need date flexibility but the option helps.

Morgan Hill Resin Flooring FAQ

Can you install in rain?

No. Active rain or 24 hours after stops the install. Polyaspartic cures via moisture but standing water on the slab causes adhesion failure.

What if I need a winter install?

Possible. Schedule after 9 am when slab has warmed. Direct sun helps. We monitor forecasts.

Summer install timing?

Early morning starts (before 11 am) or shade-tent the install for commercial.

How weather-flexible are bookings?

48-hour reschedule notice. Most projects don't need it but flexibility helps.

Will weather affect my warranty?

No. Properly installed polyaspartic carries full warranty regardless of install-day weather.
